EV Bridge School
Hey everyone! Been a few days since I've updated anything here but I do have several things lined up including updates to the 2003 page with more shows in FLAC and I may try to upload EV's Bridge set in DVD format to megaupload. I think it's a manageable size to work with as far as DVDs go. As many of you probably know his set from 10/22/2011 was webcast so the DVD is pretty nice. We'll see how it works. And while you wait for that you can watch the entire thing on Youtube. What would we do without Youtube?! Links to download the audio in FLAC and MP3 formats are below the video. Enjoy!

Random Bootleg Review Vol. 1: Hamburg, Germany 11/04/1996
So I decided to try something new recently. I figured, "I have all these bootlegs, why not actually listen to a few here and there?" And then " why not write something about the ones you listen too?" Grand idea.
Then the task was choosing a bootleg to listen too out of the hundreds of shows. How do i do that? So I just decided that since I'm in the midst of uploading all of the shows from 1996 and 2003 to just choose one of those while i get it uploaded and throw some remarks out there about the show and the recording. I'll do my best to judge the quality of the recording because I do realize that not everyone will want to download EVERY show like I just HAD to do :) Maybe a review will help you decide.
So the first show I chose, sort of at random, is Hamburg, Germany 11/04/1996. This was the show the night after the widely talked about and circulated Berlin show which was broadcast on FM radio. Personally, although the quality of the Berlin recording is very good, I've always felt there was something missing from the feel of that show. I think it's almost over hyped because it's an FM broadcast. If you're into collecting and listening to bootlegs you know there's much more to a good show than just the quality of the sound. Not to belittle the importance of sound quality but there has to be a certain FEEL or emotion to a recording as well to make it a truly great bootleg.
Okay, so Hamburg 1996. Yesterday morning I was out mowing lawns and got this show queued up on my iPhone. A quick look at the setlist and things look pretty interesting right off the bat with a "Wash" opener. A couple more songs into the set and I'm beginning to really feel this show. "Last Exit" gets my blood flowing followed by a very powerful "Animal". Getting further and further into teh opening set and I'm finding myself really paying attention to this show. Sometimes a show can just be background music when you're in the middle of something else and you're not really hearing yet but this show grabbed my attention all the way through. More highlights in teh opening set are "Betterman" with "Save It For Later" tag, "Black" with an excellent solo, and a blistering "Alive" to close out the main set. Mike just absolutely is given to wail and that song. Still, after 20 years, get chills almost every time I hear that song but this one stood out.
One of the things that really makes this a better show than the Berlin show is just the wway it seems to flow better. I felt like the Berlin gig just kind of plodded along where as this one just keeps momentum from start to finish. In this sense I would compare this show to some of the more current shows in the mid to late 2000's to current where the sets are just very well crafted and keep the pace throughout the evening. Ed has become exceptional at putting a set together.
The encore is just as kick ass as the main set. Opening with a beautiful version of "Off He Goes" and then starting to slam it home with a raging "Not For You". They close it all out with "Smile" and "Rockin' In The Free World".
This is a very solid audience recording. My own personal rating would be B+/A-. It's got a very consistent sound all the way through. The volume doesn't fade in and out at all. I've listened to this show in a few different places including, as already mentioned, on the iPhone, in my car, and in my wife's car. The sound definitely varies a bit with the system you're listening on. I noticed in my wife's car that the treble seemed a bit high. Jack's high hat was a little much but a quick adjustment to treble and bass and it was back to solid. You can find source info for this show here.
I've really come to admire a good audience recording of a show. If you get a good one you know it immediately. It takes you, virtually, inside that arena in the middle of that crowd. You can close your eyes and smell the sweat, the smoke of a cigarette, and feel the kick drum in your chest. No matter how good a soundboard recording you're not going to ever get that same feel in my most humble opinion.
So thanks to the taper for an excellent recording of an excellent show. Thank you for standing so still for 120 minutes and not singing into the mic :) And thank you for sharing with a community that just eats this shit up. Thanks to you and all those that record shows for our ears to hear and our souls to feel.
You can get the Hamburg '96 show on the 1996 page in both FLAC and MP3 formats. I highly recommend it. Sit back with a set of headphones and journey back to Germany 1996 and soak up the No Code tour in all it's glory!

Closing out '05...
The 2005 page is done for the most part. All fresh links have been added and the layout is all set. I still have to get the Pittsburgh show which was not an official bootleg release. I think they opened for the Stones or something that night and I know I have and audience recording of it some place but haven't been able to locate it yet.
I've probably mentioned it before but this is one of my favorite tours to listen too. I really can't think of a bad show from this round of bootlegs. Lots of great set lists and really mixing it up quite a bit. Enjoy the shows! The '03 tour is up next so get your hard drives ready for more FLAC files!

Well... That's it. The biggest single day update of bootlegs in the history of this blog. Thirty two shows were added this morning to the 2000 bootleg page completing phase 1 of the In The Present Tense overhaul of bootleg links.
There are a ton of very solid shows in this final bunch. Pittsburgh, Las Vegas, Seattle II,... The list goes on and on. I wish I had time to review each and every one of them and over time I just may do that. But, for now I would just say sample as many as you can.
Here is one of the finer moments from PJ10 (Las Vegas October 22, 2000):
Next I'll be moving on to the 2005 tour and updating all of those links. I actually started this process already and have the page formatted in the same way as the 2000 and 2006 tours. All of the links that are up on the '05 page are active. The others will be added very soon. One thing to keep in mind for the '05 tour is that the shows are all in MP3 format because that is all that was offered that year from the 10 club. It's a shame there were no lossless files distributed for this tour but these are some great shows regardless of the format. Lots of rarities and lost dogs!

40
There will be another post later in the week also with the number 40 in it but we'll get to the details on that in a few days. This 40 is in reference to where we are with the uploads of the 2000 Binaural tour. With this morning's update we are up to show number 40 of that tour. With any luck I hope to complete these shows this week but we'll see how that goes. I think I can get it done.
A few of the shows added today are some of my favorites to listen to. They include the New Orleans show which opens with Long Road and is a great version. Then they blast right into Grievance which I may have mentioned before but I feel this is one of the best rock songs ever. Later they play Sonic Reducer, one of the best covers they do in my humble opinion.
Also, really enjoy the Columbus show. Two of my favorite songs ever played in the same show, "In My Tree" and "Present Tense". The Noblesville (Indy) show is also quite good. Ed does a solo performance of "Throw Your Arms Around Me" in the encore. Love that song so much. We had it played at our wedding and was on our wedding soundtrack.
Here is the opening of the Noblesville show! Love this combo to open a show. So much energy!
Enjoy the shows! More on the way...

We've been having a lot if fun lately. We baked a cake for Mommy's birthday. Started dance class. Started school. Made homemade pizza. Made a scarecrow.
Oh and the 2000 bootleg page has been updated again too.

And that's it for Europe 2000
The last few shows for Pearl Jam's 2000 European tour have been added to the 2000 download page. As many of you know, Oslo, Norway, wasn't supposed to be the final stop on the Euro tour that year. In fact, Pearl Jam played on June 30th at the Roskilde festival in Copenhagen but the show was cut short due to a tragic accident which took the lives of 9 fans. The European tour ended on that note and the bands future was in question for some time after that.
The band would continue on, as you know, with a full blown US tour but there is know question that the band was forever changed form that incident. The entire tone of the tour was a bit down from that point on. It's hard to describe but you get a sense of "heaviness" when you listen to some of the shows.
The next album release after all this would be Riot Act which by the name alone you get the sense it would be a touch aggressive. Fueled I'm sure by may things but mostly the political scene of the time. Wars, George W. Bush, etc... There was room for some love though in the tune "Love Boat Captain" which aside from it's horrible name, is a very good song. Included is the line... "lost 9 friends we'll never know, two years ago today" paying tribute to the fallen fans at Roskilde two years prior.
It's something the band has never forgotten and neither have the fans in this wonderful community. Last year in Berlin, Germany the band played on the 10th anniversary of the tragedy and again made mention of the friends they lost that day.
May they rest in peace and hear the music of this great band in heaven.

Another 2011 audience recording...
On Sunday an audience recording of the 2011 Ottawa show surfaced. The show has been added to the 2011 page and is available in FLAC and MP3 (320kbps)formats.
09/14/11: Scotiabank Place, Ottawa, ON, CAN
main set: Elderly Woman Behind The Counter In A Small Town, Last Exit, Do The Evolution, MFC, Unthought Known, Low Light, Given To Fly, Setting Forth, Whipping, Corduroy, Even Flow, Grievance, Lukin, Breath, Wishlist, Olé, 1/2 Full, Better Man(/Save It For Later)
first encore: The End, Inside Job, Just Breathe, Off He Goes, Why Go, The Fixer, Rearviewmirror
second encore: Come Back, The Real Me, Alive, Yellow Ledbetter
Also, check out the 2000 page for an update as well. Added 4 more shows there all in FLAC format. Shows made available today are Verona, Milan, Zurich, and Berlin. The Milan show is exceptional and I have a soft spot for Verona because of the "Long Road" opener. One day I'll see it in person.
And just for shits and giggles and because I've just been loving the shit out of this band lately I decided to upload a Foo Fighters show. This is their performance from the Pinkpop festival back in June 2011. This was an FM broadcast so the sound is quite good.

6 more shows added
Added six more shows to the 2000 bootleg page this morning. Up to show #18 for the Binaural tour and this update includes, what I consider, two of the best bootlegs from the 2000 series. Katowice, Poland June 15th and 16th. Both great sets and very well performed. June 16th is probably considered one of the best shows in the bands history.
Enjoy the shows! Lot's more on the way for this tour. One of my favorite sets of bootlegs to listen too.

2011 Tour Page Added
Figured it was time to make it official and just create a page for the current tour. I have added both Alpine Valley (PJ20) night 2 and the Montreal show to the 2011 page. Both shows are available in FLAC and MP3 and both are audience recordings. Alpine Valley night 1, which was previously posted, has also been added to the 2011 page.
With any luck this page will continue to grow as the tour unfolds. I'm on the look out for both Toronto shows, both of which had killer set lists, and will post them as they become available.
While we wait for more audience recordings to surface from the 2011 gigs I will contuniue to update the links for the 2000 page as well. Currently up to show #12 and will have more shows to add later today or tomorrow morning.

Have you heard...
...Chris Cornell's new song "The Keeper"? Damn fine tune and he even posted it on youtube for us to listen to.
You can make a donation to a cause to help save children in East Africa and get a download of he song that way or of course you could just get it for free using KeepVid or something along those lines ;) Check out Chris Cornell Dot COM for details. Or you can just check this out.
Take care all,
Andy

With A Little Help
It's been long. Too long since this blog has seen any kind of update. I love this blog and wish I had more time to put into it. To share all that I have with all of the other crazy Pearl Jam fans around the world. The fact is that I sometimes find the task of getting everything in order and uploaded and posted a bit daunting. The other fact is that this is not the most important thing in my life that requires my time. There is my career, my family, a small side business, a garden, a home to maintain and relationships that I try to not let get too far away from me. Most importantly there are these two:
Now that I have my priorities out there I'm happy to say that yes, finally, there is a bootleg update! With some major help from far, far away a friend (who I met through this place) has uploaded and provided rapidshare links for the complete 2006 tour in FLAC format. Actually, he provided the links probably a month ago and I have finally gotten around to updating the 2006 page with the new links. I will continue to upload the shows to Megaupload as well since it's always nice to have several download options. I know some people prefer Rapidshare and some people prefer Megaupload so in the case of the 2006 tour we'll have links from both. There is know difference in format or quality of the downloads it's simply a matter of where the file is being downloaded from.
So hit up the 2006 page and get some more shows and enjoy! I plan on coming back and updating frequently so stay with me on this all encompassing trip and we'll explore the present tense together.
Best wishes to those that have been impacted by hurricane Irene. My thoughts go out to all of you. This one goes out to you.

What? A bootleg update?
Yes, yes, yes... a LONG over due update to the bootleg vault has finally taken place. I don't have time to go into details but my world is beyond busy these days so getting shows uploaded hasn't been as easy as I'd hoped in this PJ20 year of celebration. But that's just what the present tense has in store for me right now. My world is my family and everything that keeps that going but I hope to keep this passion updated as much as possible too. So here is what has been added today to the 2006 bootleg section:
7-20-2006 Portland, OR (North American Tour finally completed!!)
8-23-2006 Dublin, Ireland
8-25-2006 Leeds Festival, UK
8-27-2006 Reading Festival, UK
8-29-2006 Arnhem, Netherlands
8-30-2006 Antwerp, Belgium
9-01-2006 Barcelona, Spain
Thanks for stopping by and enjoy then shows!

Almost There
Okay 5 more shows added from the 2006 tour. One more left to round out the 2nd leg of the North American tour. Next up I'll get right into the European tour and try to get the entire tour up by the middle of February. Not sure what the plan is yet after that. Maybe hit some older stuff or just get right into 2005.
For now enjoy the '06 tour! Here are the shows that were added this morning.
07-10-2006 Los Angeles
07-13-2006 Santa Barbara
07-15-2006 San Francisco
07-16-2006 San Francisco
07-18-2006 San Francisco
This is a clip from the 07-16 gig in San Fran. Looks like there may be a DVD floating around for this one too but I don't have it at this time.

Pushing Through With The '06 Tour
Big round of updates in the 2006 tour section today with the addition of shows in FLAC format. The St.Paul, Milwaukee, and Denver shows were all opening sets. Pearl Jam opened for Tom Petty on those dates so the sets are significantly shorter than a normal Pearl Jam show. Still worth a listen of course. There are actually pretty good fan made DVDs of both of the Denver sets. If you're into torrents you can download both of the DVDs over at Jam River.
Today's updates include:
06-23-2006 Pittsburgh
06-24-2006 Cincinnati
06-26-2006 St. Paul
06-27-2006 St.Paul
06-29-2006 Milwaukee
06-30-2006 Milwaukee
07-02-2006 Denver
07-03-2006 Denver
07-06-2006 Las Vegas
07-07-2006 San Diego
07-09-2006 Los Angelas
If I HAD to pick a best show out of these I would have to say San Diego probably takes the cake. An "Oceans" opener and a surprise "Long Road" to open the encore. Eddie also gives a pretty in depth description of the origin of "Long Road".
This is some footage from the Denver show on July 3rd, 2006. This is this footage is posted on Youtube by the creator of the DVD bootlegs so this is what the DVDs look like. Pretty good stuff. Enjoy the shows!

And That Concludes Leg One 2006...
The PJ20 celebration is rolling along here on ITPT. Just wrapped up the download links for the remaining shows of the first leg of the 2006 tour. Shows added today include:
05-30-2006 Washington, DC
06-01-2006 East Rutherford, NJ
06-03-2006 East Rutherford, NJ
These shows are available in FLAC only at this time.
And here are a few samplings, video style, from these shows. First is "Low Light" from DC. Always a special moment when you get to here this gem from Yield!
Then there's "Inside Job", or what I like to call "the best fucking song from Self-Titled", from East Rutherford II. Such an inspirational piece of work from Mr. Mike McCready (Words & Music - McCready)
Leg II of the North American will kick off tomorrow (or later today) with Pittsburgh and possibly Cincy! Enjoy the shows!

My Kids Like Bootlegs Too
Added 4 more shows to the 2006 bootleg section this morning. All pretty solid shows with few special moments, at least in my opinion, during the Boston shows.
Shows added:
05-20-2006 Cleveland, Ohio
05-22-2006 Detroit, Michigan
05-24-2006 Boston, Mass
05-25-2006 Boston, Mass
During the Boston 5-24 show they open the 1st encore with a great version of Dylan's "Forever Young" followed by a great version of his "Master's Of War". This was in honor of Dylan's birthday. Late in the second encore on 5-25 they drop the "Leash" for the first time in many moons! Pretty cool moments in PJ history.
My daughters think so too...
...and here are a few of those special moments from Boston '06.
"Troubled souls unite!"
"May you build a ladder to the stars and climb on every rung..."

Chicago II and Grand Rapids Added
The 2006 bootleg section has been updated with two more shows today. Chicago 05-17-2006 and Grand Rapids 05-19-2006. The Grand Rapids show is available in both FLAC and MP3 formats. I happened to have this one converted to MP3 already so figured I may as well upload it. The MP3s were encoded from the original FLAC files at 320kbps (CBR). Highest possible quality for an MP3.
These are both solid shows with Grand Rapids being hailed as one of the best of the tour by many. A solid and long set list and an energetic performance make this a stand out show. Chicago II is also a solid show with "Crown of Thorns" thrown in the mix. Can't go wrong with that track making an appearance.
This could possibly be my favorite song from the Grand Rapids show. One of those songs that you can just close your eyes and be taken somewhere else. Beautiful, powerful, amazing...
This is 1/2 Full from Chicago 5/17/2006. This song always kicks ass mostly because Mike just tears this shit up!

More fresh 2006 links
The 2006 bootleg page has a whole new look and has a few new bootleg links as well. Eventually going to move to this same layout with all of the bootleg sections but it's probably going to take quite a bit of time. I want to get each show down to just two links. One for each disc in FLAC format and then possibly put up MP3 links as well but those can be found on other sites if that's what you're really after.
Check out the new page layout and let me know what you think. The shows added today are:
05-12-2006 Albany, New York
05-13-2006 Hartford, CT
05-16-2006 Chicago, Illinois
Albany is likely the shortest set played on this entire tour but it's a great, blistering set. Definitely don't skip it just because the set list is a bit short on songs. Give it a chance and I'm certain you'll like what you hear.
Enjoy the shows and thanks for stopping by!
Here's a video sample of "Sad" from Albany. One of my favorite songs. No idea how it ended up being a "Lost Dog".

Pearl Jam Bootleg Update: Toronto 2006 Shows Added
The first bootleg updates of 2011 have been added to the 2006 bootleg page. Both shows to open the 2006 tour in Toronto are now available in FLAC format. Show info follows:
05/09/06 – Air Canada Centre, Toronto, CAN
Soundcheck: Unemployable, Sad, Love Boat Captain, Severed Hand
set: Severed Hand, World Wide Suicide, Life Wasted, Marker in the Sand, Given To Fly, Better Man, Even Flow, Unemployable, Garden, Sad, Corduroy, Present Tense, Daughter/(To Come) -> Grievance -> Not For You/(Check on it), Inside Job, Why Go
first encore: Do The Evolution, Jeremy, Come Back, Alive
second encore: Porch, Rockin in the Free World, Yellow Ledbetter
TFT Notes: This is the first night of the first leg of the tour in support of Pearl Jam. The band hits the stage at 8:50PM local time, entering the stage with “Master/Slave” playing as the intro music over the P.A. The “Daughter” tag is parts of “To Come”, a monologue by Lenny Bruce. In the middle of “Not For You” just before the “All that’s sacred…” line, Ed sings “Check up on it” twice from Beyonce’s “Check On It”(!). “Inside Job” premieres at this show, with Mike playing a double neck guitar. My Morning Jacket joined in smashing tambourines during “Rockin’ in the Free World” and two of the band members did backing vocals with Jeff and Stone. At the end of the show, all of the band members were throwing guitar/bass picks and Matt his drumsticks as usual. Stone, though, started throwing out a lot of merchandise (hats, t-shirts, etc.) into the crowd. He didnt scrunch them up, so they didn’t travel that far into the crowd. One time he tried to toss it over his head backwards and it ended up only a couple of feet behind him, amusing those up front.
05/10/06 – Air Canada Centre, Toronto, CAN
soundcheck:It Ain’t Like That (Alice In Chains, partial), In Hiding, You Are, Low Light, World Wide Suicide, Wasted Reprise
set: Release, World Wide Suicide, Life Wasted, Severed Hand, Hail, Hail, Unemployable, Dissident, Even Flow, Corduroy, I Am Mine, Low Light, (Improv)/Whipping, You Are, I Got Shit/(Cinnamon Girl), Better Man/(Save It For Later), Jeremy, Marker in the Sand, Black, Rearviewmirror
first encore: Wasted Reprise -> Man of The Hour, Elderly Woman…, State of Love and Trust, Do The Evolution, Alive
second encore: (Improv)/Go, Crazy Mary, Fuckin’ Up, Indifference, Yellow Ledbetter/(Beast Of Burden)
TFT Notes: The band hits the stage at 8:50PM local time, entering the stage with “Master/Slave” playing as the intro music over the P.A. “Severed Hand” now features stage effects including smoke and lasers. The first set clocks in at 100 minutes! “Wasted Reprise” premieres at this show, seguing into “Man of the Hour”. During “I Got Shit”, a drumstick flew out of Matt’s hand, hit Ed’s leg and landed in front of Stone. He looked down and grabbed it, holding it up excitedly as though he were in the audience and caught it. After “I Got Shit”, Ed told the crowd he had a secret to tell, that this won’t be on the bootlegs and first sang the chorus of “I Got Shit” by himself, then sang “I wanna be with a Cinnamon Girl, I want to live the rest of my life with a Cinnamon Girl”, hinting the similarity in the two choruses. During “State of Love and Trust” where Ed often goes over and head-butts or leans again Mike, Ed looked at Mike and leaned down like he was going to go over, but didn’t. Ed mentioned that Sean Kinney’s birthday was coming up and told the crowd he was going to count to three, and then the crowd would say, “Happy birthday Sean!”. He said they’d send Sean a video of it so he could watch it on the tour bus (Sean Kinney’s birthday is May 27, and Alice In Chains will be on tour in Europe) . It was then that he asked Kevin to make sure he was filming. Ed spoke directly into the camera as if he were talking to Sean, saying something like, “Hey Sean, we’re just here hanging out in Toronto, and we just wanted to say something to you…”. He then counted to three, and the crowd yelled “Happy birthday Sean!”. The wine bottle was passed back quite a ways during “Crazy Mary”. At one point in the encore, Matt whipped his sticks into the crowd behind the stage (maybe a litte harder than he intended), and then briefly pretended he was a fan who got hit in the eyes and had a stick stuck in each. Towards the end of “Fuckin’ Up”, Ed tried to lay down on Stone’s monitors and fell off. He sat up and remained there, snapping his fingers along, and drank a Heineken after the wine bottle was empty. Ed laughs so much during “Yellow Ledbetter” that it interrupts his singing. He laughed because there was a banner to his left that caught his eye, it said : “Impeach Bush. Pearl Jam For President”.

Back to the Boots!
Okay folks, welcome to 2011 on In The Present Tense! This year I'm going to be swinging my focus back to the roots of this hear blog. In honor of the celebration of Pearl Jam's 20 years of rocking our free worlds I bringing the bootleg updates back and I hereby vow to keep them coming in 2011.
I'm thinking of maybe trying a few new things here to see I we can get more interaction between myself and those that may visit this blog in search of a Pearl Jam gold mine of audio and video. So big hint... stay tuned for some B&P and/or freebie offers of Pearl Jam DVDs (video) and data DVDs to maybe help jump start some of those collections!
I'll also be adding a better way to contact me if you want to request something. My archive is pretty large so if you want something specific please do ask. I'll do my best to get you what you're looking for.
Happy 2011!! Let the Pearl Jam 20 celebration officially begin!
We're all still ALIVE!
